We had this MK6 Golf GTI in the workshop, which was running very roughly on three cylinders. We ran diagnostics and ruled out ignition problems and identified no3 injector had failed. Still even for a 4 cylinder running on 3 pots, it seemed rougher than you’d expect.
We removed the injectors and found bit of filter basket in the fuel rail. This wasn’t a good sign, we sent them for flow test knowing in all likelihood all 4 would need replacing. Rather than go and obtain new Genuine VW ones we found a supplier that can replace the filter baskets in the injectors with metal ones. The injector they supplier is Bosch and the same spec, without the VW price tag. The OEM baskets fall apart and when they got our injectors they said they were the worst they’d seen.
They are supposed to hit 70 on the test we had from cylinder 1 to 4 – 60, 40, 0, 35.
While new injectors were in the courier system, we set to work on the Walnut Blast.
Here’s a gallery of images from that
Once the job was complete the car was test driven. WOW – this must be remapped – it lit up the tyres on a wet road even at small throttle openings. I’m not sure why some mappers think that it’s helpful to try and deliver so much on a small throtttle opening. A progressive delivery of power is much more pleasant and easier to drive. I said to the customer that it felt much faster than a Golf R but that it was a bit much and ideally a new file would help. The customer seemed to agree with me
“regarding the remapping on it, I do see what you mean it’s rather aggressive and well immediate don’t think the dogbone mount will last 5 mins let alone the suspension 😆.But overall I’m really happy with what you’ve done and how it’s running”
