GR Yaris – Stainless Steel Exhaust installation

toyota gr yaris with upgrades
A Toyota GR Yaris with upgraded wheels and exhaust – this car was detailed by a local chap who we can put you in touch with if you want Paint Protection Film. This car came to us via Balance Motor Sport who had supplied the customer with a Milltek exhaust.

From experience these often need a bit of work to make them fit – it was the case on this one too. The pipes were ovalised by about 2mm and we needed to use a special hydraulic tool to rectify this.

A bit more about the GR Yaris – it’s a high performance hatchback that has gained significant attention for its impressive engineering, rally-inspired design, and its popularity in the aftermarket tuning scene. It’s part of Toyota’s Gazoo Racing lineup, which focuses on creating vehicles with enhanced performance for both the road and the track.

Engine Specification: The GR Yaris is powered by a turbocharged three-cylinder engine known as the G16E-GTS. This 1.6-liter engine is designed with a focus on performance and features advanced technologies to deliver a substantial amount of power. The engine utilizes direct fuel injection, a single-scroll turbocharger, and an intercooler to maximize output and efficiency. In its stock form, the engine produces around 257 horsepower and 265 lb-ft of torque, which is impressive considering the car’s compact size.

Transmission: One of the standout features of the GR Yaris is its transmission. It comes with a 6-speed manual gearbox that’s designed to provide precise and engaging shifts, catering to driving enthusiasts who enjoy a more connected driving experience. This manual transmission, combined with the car’s lightweight and nimble chassis, contributes to its exceptional performance characteristics.

Rally-Built Design: The GR Yaris draws inspiration from Toyota’s World Rally Championship – (don’t mention the Celica ST205) experience. It’s built on a unique platform that combines elements from the Toyota GA-B and GA-C platforms, making it more suitable for performance and rally applications. The body structure is engineered with lightweight materials, and the car features a wide track, flared fenders, and aerodynamic enhancements that not only contribute to its distinctive rally-inspired appearance but also enhance its handling and stability at high speeds.

Aftermarket Tuning Phenomenon: The GR Yaris has quickly become a sensation in the aftermarket tuning world due to its strong performance foundation and the availability of aftermarket parts to enhance its capabilities even further. Popular aftermarket upgrades for the GR Yaris that Balance Motor Works can install for you are :

  1. Stainless Exhausts: Upgrading the exhaust system to a stainless steel setup can improve exhaust flow, enhance engine sound, and potentially increase power output. From experience of installing various brands we would recommend Ragazzon and Supersprint as the best we’ve seen
  2. Suspension: Aftermarket suspension components such as coilovers or upgraded springs and dampers can improve handling and provide the ability to fine-tune the car’s ride and cornering characteristics. We would recommend Ohlins, Bilstein or BC Racing
  3. Wheels and Tyres: Many enthusiasts opt for larger, lightweight wheels and high-performance tyres to enhance grip and aesthetics while reducing unsprung weight. Speedline make the best wheels for these
  4. Engine Tuning: Engine tuning options include ECU remapping and modifications to the turbocharger, intercooler, and intake system to extract more power from the engine.
  5. Brake Upgrades: Upgraded brake components, such as larger brake discs and high-performance brake pads, can improve stopping power and reduce brake fade during circuit driving.
  6. Aero Enhancements: More hardcore track day enthusiasts might want us to add front splitters, rear wings, and other aerodynamic elements to improve downforce and stability at higher speeds.
