Manufactured at Mazda’s Hiroshima plant, the MX-5 debuted in 1989 at the Chicago Auto Show and was conceived and executed under a tightly focused design credo Jinba ittai (人馬一体), meaning “oneness of horse and rider”. The NA MX-5 with its pop up headlights is now a design classic. The MX-5 has frequently been called a spiritual successor to 1950s and ’60s Italian and British roadster sports cars. The original Lotus Elan was used as a design benchmark. This model which has come to us for a Lanoguard treatment is the 3rd generation which features a “full fat” 167HP 2.0 16v engine. Contrast that with the original car which only had 113HP.
This MX-5 was a 2015 plate and arguably we’ve applied the Lanoguard just in time. Remember we inject into the box sections as well and it’s those areas where corrosion can lurk unseen.
